The Journey of RetroMC and BetaLands
Key Events from Inception to Present

This is a chronological timeline capturing the significant milestones, achievements, and key events in the history of RetroMC and BetaLands from their creation to the present day.

2014

  • 18 June 2014 - RetroMC is originally created by 16.png SpaceWolfE (SuperSheriff).

2015

  • May 2015 - BetaLands is originally created by 16.png Swetz.

2016

  • 9 September 2016 - RetroMC is shut down unexpectedly. Communication attempts with 16.png SpaceWolfE went unanswered.

2017

  • Early 2017 - RetroMC is restarted by an admin named 16.png jetpackingwolf (16.png JohnyMuffin) as a whitelisted server, and he would then advertise it in a Discord group consisting of ex-OakGlen members (a town from the original RetroMC).
  • 19 November 2017 - RetroMC becomes un-whitelisted and is publicly advertised on the Minecraft Forum.

2018

  • 13 April 2018 - BetaLands and RetroMC merge forming Retro Lands.
  • 3 June 2018 - RetroMC and BetaLands split due to differing opinions of 16.png Swetz and 16.png JohnyMuffin, but the "Retro Lands" name is still kept for the time being.
  • 28 June 2018 - The Towny plugin is set-up on Retro Lands.
  • 10 July 2018 - A new default & donor rank system is introduced on Retro Lands.
  • 3 September 2018 - The Overviewer plugin is set-up on Retro Lands as a replacement to Dynmap.
  • December 2018 - 16.png JohnyMuffin renames Retro Lands back to "RetroMC".

2019

  • 15 March 2019 - The Skylands is added to RetroMC.
  • 10 June 2019 - The MobArena plugin is set-up on RetroMC.
  • 18 June 2019 - RetroMC turns 5 years old.
  • 26 June 2019 - The StarGate plugin is set-up on RetroMC.
  • 20 September 2019 - BetaLands is shutdown for the first time.
  • 21 September 2019 - 16.png LeeTaeJun gains ownership of BetaLands and restarts the server.
  • 18 November 2019 - 16.png Swetz regains ownership of BetaLands.
  • 8 December 2019 - RetroMC acquires BetaLands.

  • 25 October 2021 - The Farlands is made public on RetroMC again.

  • 24 December 2022 - JVillage is rolled out as a replacement to Towny on RetroMC.

2023

  • 1 January 2023 - J-Stats, a RetroMC statistics website made by developer 16.png notsui is publicly launched.
  • 7 May 2023 - The RetroMC Wiki (a one hosted on MediaWiki) is privately launched by 16.png notsui. Soon after, staff members 16.png CruxyMC, 16.png Noggisoggi, 16.png thecow275 and et al starts documenting stuff on it.
  • 23 June 2023 - The RetroMC Wiki is made publicly available.
  • 26 June 2023 - The RetroMC Staff Policy Manual is drafted.
  • 7 July 2023 - BetaLands' second shutdown is announced.
  • 1 September 2023 - The BetaLands Sendoff event occured; it shut down for the public, but it still remains accessible by staff members for transfers.

2024
