Key Events from Inception to Present
This is a chronological timeline capturing the significant milestones, achievements, and key events in the history of RetroMC and BetaLands from their creation to the present day.
2014
- 18 June 2014 - RetroMC is originally created by SpaceWolfE (SuperSheriff).
2015
- May/June 2015 - BetaLands is originally created by Swetz.
2016
- 26 July 2016 - A Discord server for RetroMC is created.
- 3 September 2016 - A YouTube channel for RetroMC is created.
- 9 September 2016 - RetroMC is shut down unexpectedly. Communication attempts with SpaceWolfE went unanswered.
2017
- Early 2017 - RetroMC is restarted by an admin named jetpackingwolf ( JohnyMuffin) as a whitelisted server, and he would then advertise it in a Discord group consisting of ex-OakGlen members (a town from the original RetroMC).
- Late-June 2017 - Swetz launches BetaLands Factions (b1.7.3).
- 17 July 2017 - A Steam Community group for BetaLands is created.
- 22 August 2017 - An Instagram account for BetaLands is created, which was later on deleted.
- 19 November 2017 - RetroMC becomes un-whitelisted and is publicly advertised on the Minecraft Forum.
2018
- 4 February 2018 - A Subreddit for BetaLands is created.
- 28 March 2018 - A custom-generated version of SkyGrid is added to BetaLands.
- 13 April 2018 - BetaLands and RetroMC merge forming Retro Lands.
- June 2018 - A Twitter/𝕏 account for Retro Lands is created.
- 3 June 2018 - RetroMC and BetaLands split due to differing opinions of Swetz and JohnyMuffin, but the "Retro Lands" name is still kept for the time being.
- 6 June 2018 - A Trello board for Retro Lands is created.
- 16 June 2018 - The Skylands is added to BetaLands.
- 27 June 2018 - Swetz launches BetaLands Factions (b1.7.3) for a second time after the first one being shutdown for a while.
- 28 June 2018 - The Towny plugin is set-up on Retro Lands for a second time.
- 10 July 2018 - A new default & donor rank system is introduced on Retro Lands.
- 12 July 2018 - A Subreddit for Retro Lands is created.
- 3 September 2018 - The Overviewer plugin is set-up on Retro Lands as a replacement to Dynmap.
- 5 November 2018 - A GitHub Organization for Retro Lands is created.
- 28 November 2018 - A Steam Community group for Retro Lands is created.
- 30 November 2018 - The Xmas shop (a predecessor to the Holiday shop) opens on Retro Lands for the first and last time for the holidays. It lasts from November 30th to the end of December.
- December 2018 - JohnyMuffin renames Retro Lands back to "RetroMC".
2019
- 15 March 2019 - The Skylands is added to RetroMC.
- 19 May 2019 - The Holiday shop opens on RetroMC for the first time.
- 9 June 2019 - BetaLands Factions (b1.7.3) is shutdown and rebranded as BetaLands Anarchy.
- 10 June 2019 - The MobArena plugin is set-up on RetroMC.
- 18 June 2019 - RetroMC turns 5 years old.
- 26 June 2019 - The StarGate plugin is set-up on RetroMC.
- 20 September 2019 - BetaLands & BetaLands Anarchy is shutdown.
- 20-21 September 2019 - LeeTaeJun gains ownership of BetaLands and restarts the server except for BetaLands Anarchy, which remains permanently shutdown.
- 18 November 2019 - Swetz regains ownership of BetaLands and decides to rebrand it as Gravel Beach.
- 24 November 2019 - The Skylands and "Mars" (a custom-generated map based on the planet Mars made by developer HappyWaffle) is added to Gravel Beach.
- 8 December 2019 - RetroMC acquires Gravel Beach, which is rebranded as BetaLands again.
2020
- 21 January 2020 - BetaEVO, a RetroMC client mod made by JohnyMuffin is publicly released.
- May/June 2020 - BetaLands turns 5 years old.
- 30 September 2020 - RetroMC no longer allows non-premium Minecraft accounts to connect to the server.
- 30 November 2020 - BetaLands no longer allows non-premium Minecraft accounts to connect to the server.
- 25 December 2020 - A custom-generated version of the Farlands is added to RetroMC for a holiday event.
- 28 December 2020 - JBans is rolled out as a replacement to EasyBans on RetroMC.
2021
- 5 January 2021 - The Farlands is no longer public on RetroMC due to the holiday event ending.
- 25 October 2021 - The Farlands is made public on RetroMC again.
2022
- 24 December 2022 - JVillage is rolled out as a replacement to Towny on RetroMC.
2023
- 1 January 2023 - J-Stats, a RetroMC statistics website made by developer notsui is publicly launched.
- 7 May 2023 - The RetroMC Wiki (a one hosted on MediaWiki) is privately launched by notsui. Soon after, staff members CruxyMC, Noggisoggi, thecow275 and et al starts documenting stuff on it.
- 23 June 2023 - The RetroMC Wiki is made publicly available.
- 26 June 2023 - The RetroMC Staff Policy Manual is drafted.
- 7 July 2023 - BetaLands' second shutdown is announced.
- 1 September 2023 - The BetaLands Sendoff event occured; it shut down for the public, but it still remains accessible by staff members for transfers.
2024
- 2 March 2024 - The deadline for BetaLands transfers ends, and the server fully shuts down for the last time.
- 18 June 2024 - RetroMC turns 10 years old and the RetroMC 10th Anniversary Tournament is held.
- 28 June 2024 - The RetroMC 10th Anniversary Tournament ends with: Krissofer in 1st place, zavdav in 2nd place, and TelltheL in 3rd place.
- 30 June 2024 - A revamped nature themed spawn island is released to the public on RetroMC.
