Okoboji is a town to the far east of the UIP. It was founded on March 19th, 2024 by aq2a with the intent of being a "Vacation Town". The town is built around Spirit Lake, separating the town into 5 districts. Known for its breath-taking views, Okoboji is a great place to visit, and get inspiration for your own builds. It's also quite the lively place to live if you can afford it...

Building Code
Okoboji has one of the most extensive building codes of any town on RetroMC. This was done to encourage the construction of quality buildings, and homes. It can be summarized in the saying: "If it looks good, and fits with the other builds, then it stays." A shorter version of the building code is listed below, to assist aspiring builders. The full building code can be found here Okoboji Building Code
- Buildings may be removed, edited, or moved by town officials at any time.
- Structures must be of similar quality, style, and size of other builds around them
- New structures must follow Okoboji City Zoning and District Laws, regarding their location and purpose
- Players are encouraged to enlist the help of Town Assistants in their design process
History
Founding
Okoboji was founded on March 19th, 2024, by aq2a. It was originally named Acropolis, and it contained a single stone tower in current day Old-Town. \ It was originally intended to be an "imperial-themed" town, with structures taking strictly a neo-classical appearance. This changed early on in the town's development. Sometime in late March 2024, the stone tower was moved to Amish City, and the construction of Old-Town began. Old-Town's design was heavily inspired from an old UIP Vassal state called Iceland. In fact, it is an exact replica of this old build. When aq2a discovered Iceland, he attempted to contact the owner of the structure in order to gain ownership of it. When that failed, he decided to replicate it block for block in his now empty town.
Far Harbor
After finishing the construction of Old-Town, the city of Acropolis was renamed to Far Harbor to better fit the atmosphere that the island town held. A large forest was planted on the northern side of Old-Town, and the town became used as storage for aq2a. During this time, Far Harbor was basically a dead town. It was decided that the only people who were worthy to join, were those who made the long journey on foot. Sometime during June of 2024, Far Harbor was visited by the Balloon Shop, marking the first time the Balloon ever landed outside of Spawn Town. Allegedly, this was hinted at by the mysterious balloon operator in his visitation chamber under the player market. The only player to discover this, was Orknarok_666 who was a member of Far Harbor at the time.
Northern Okoboji
Sometime during July of 2024, the town of Far Harbor was renamed to Okoboji as it began expanding past Old-Town's island. The first structure of the expanding town was a personal cabin built by aq2a, in what is now North Okoboji. He intended for all future homes to be built along Spirit Lake, encouraging travel by boat to differing houses. aq2a Also built a number of other structures in North Okoboji including an entrance to the Okoboji Mines. It was during this time that the first few residents to Okoboji were invited. Orknarok_666, YanBuilder, and KingDaKa4 were invited and built their homes around different areas of the lake.
Southern Okoboji
In August 2024, aq2a Began expansions southward by constructing a long road that followed the shape of the lake. Arriving on the opposite side of Spirit Lake, he began construction of a bridge similar to that of the Atacama Bridge, in order that Okoboji be connected to the greater bridge system one day. Under this bridge, began the construction of Okoboji's Southern district. This district was meant to be the center for activity of the town. Construction began in early October of 2024, and continues to this day. Once finished, it will become a "restricted-building" zone, (see Okoboji Building Code) and will have many services including shops, farms, bars, and a casino.
