The 3rd Spawn Town Election was held between November 1-4 at 5:00 AM (UTC) on both days and of 2023 and is the most consequential one on RetroMC to date.
This was another election to select the new mayor of Spawn Town; the role itself is mostly ceremonial.
Candidates had to pay the election commitee ( 16.png CruxyMC) $2000 before Oct 31st 2023 at 12:00 AM (24:00, UTC).

Background

On October 26th of 2023, 16.png CruxyMC made a public forum post on the RMC Discord server for a call to action on gathering possible candidates for the 3rd Spawn Town election, and in under 24 hours, the candidates arrived and participated.
The election was supposed to be held sometime during the summer vacation, but was delayed due to a low player count and a lack of quality candidates to field from.
The main issue that candidates ran into was action, or lack thereof - the 2 leading candidates, 16.png Meowser_ and 16.png aq2a, felt that the then-incumbent 16.png Orknarok_666 didn't do enough as mayor.

Election rules

  1. You could run for an infinite amount of terms.
This is to keep a peaceful transfer of what little power the mayor actually has.
  2. Only players with Citizen or above could run for mayor.
  3. A $2000 entrance fee must be paid in order to run for mayor.
  4. Candidates could make up to 3 billboards/advertisements in Spawn Town and must be removed after the election.
  5. Candidates could make a manifesto and could send it to CruxyMC for revision before posting it in the forum post.
  6. The winner of the election would receive 100% of the total pot + $20,000 from the Election Committee.
The winner could do whatever they wanted with the money.
  7. The winner gets access to the White House in Spawn Town as their base of operations on RMC until the next election arrives.
  8. Everyone on RetroMC has the right to vote except banned/muted players, and votes casted by alternate accounts are disregarded.

Aftermath

Initial excitement followed 16.png Meowser_'s victory, but when no action had been taken in over a week by the new mayor, concerns from RMC citizens began to emerge.
Despite 16.png Meowser_'s reassurance that "big things were in the pipeline", it wouldn't be until November 21, 2023 that his first major project as Mayor would be initiated: the new Senate chambers.
This building is intended to serve as a place of deliberation and decision making for the Mayor and their cabinet.

'No confidence' vote and a special election ballot

On November 28th, the first vote of no confidence was privately sent to the election committee; Howard was expected to survive.
The very next day, with only 30 minutes left in the vote of no confidence, 16.png aq2a initiated a campaign to capture the additional votes needed for it to pass.
Utilizing in-game chat he was able to convince enough players to vote 'no confidence' and the 10 vote threshold was quickly reached (Although some say his tactic of misrepresenting the actual function of the vote to gain new players' support could be deemed unethical, but it effective nonetheless).

Election committee member 16.png CruxyMC promptly sent out a special election poll, which contained 2 choices for the voters:

  1. Install the second place candidate (aq2a) as Spawn Town Mayor
  2. Hold a special election with new candidates

Interim Mayor

On December 13th, election committee lead 16.png CruxyMC announced that due to delays in the creation of a new RetroMC constitution, the 2nd place candidate, 16.png aq2a, would be installed as Mayor to serve the remainder of 16.png Meowser_'s term and thus, 16.png aq2a became Spawn Town's 4th mayor.
