DogTown is a town created by 16.png DogPool_ in mid-2024, located approximately at 16424 * 5650. It neighbours NorthernEmpires to the north, Metropolis to the west and HolyTrinity to the south. With its fairly lax building laws, openness to new members and global accessibility through the usage of /warp dogtown, DogTown has developed one of the higher member counts on the server; in reality, however, the majority of these players are inactive or have directed their efforts elsewhere. Regardless, DogTown retains a small but dedicated community of builders, and players across the server visit frequently to browse the popular local DogShop (accessible via /warp dogshop).

History

I'm gonna redo this whole section later, please leave it alone for now

2024

[WIP - opening to the public - member growth - important builds]

On November 29, 2024 a Discord server dedicated to DogTown was created by 16.png DogPool_.

On December 4, 2024 the Boat Contest was announced, initially with a deadline of January 1, 2025. though later being pushed back to the middle of February.

On December 17, 2024 the opening of the DogShop was officially announced.

2025

January 16, 2025 marks the official opening of the DogTown mine.

Districts

DogTown as of now is divided into 5 main districts, with an additional one under construction by assistant 16.png Mobweb and several more planned for the future. These current districts are Central DogTown, Catville, the Docks, the South Loop and the North Loop.

Central DogTown

Central DogTown is (as the name implies) the center of DogTown, sitting between the two sections of DogTown Road and bordering Catville to the left. It is built around a large central lake, with most buildings and roads either sitting on the cliffs overlooking it or on top of the water itself. Most builds here follow a rustic theme and are composed of four primary materials: planks, spruce logs, cobblestone and bricks.

Both the village spawn and the global warp are situated here. While the village spawn is a simple roofed shelter above the original DogTown docks, the warp has its own building built by 16.png Mobweb, with a nature-themed interior, message & advertisement boards and a sign room. From left to right, the building has four exits; one leading to DogShop (see #DogShop section for details), one to the Cactus Farm, one leading underground to the StarGate Center (see #StarGate networks section for details) and one to the rest of Central DogTown. If one goes past DogShop at the left outdoor exit, they will also reach 16.png tronitas46's DogTown Mine and the Docks, and doing a U-turn at the crossroads ahead will bring you to 16.png Vyrvin's Town Hall.

The warp building's right outdoor exit leads to the Deadpool skin statue, built entirely out of wool by 16.png DogPool_. The statue is 32 blocks tall and 16 blocks wide, and the interior is accessible through a set of doors at the statue's feet. In front of the Deadpool statue are the homes of 16.png DogPool_ and 16.png Catandis, the biggest private residences in Central DogTown. 16.png DogPool_'s house in particular was the first building ever made in DogTown's current location and was designed & built by 16.png JekyllorHyde, while 16.png Catandis' house was self-made and is the larger of the two. The DogTown Apartments also sit behind 16.png DogPool_'s house and are notable for their crescent moon shape; they were constructed by 16.png Tesla_Ru.

Further down the path is a crossroads leading to either 16.png HanSolo20's industrial blast furnace or 16.png Mobweb's smithy, the latter path of which also leads to the public wheat farm and the bridge to Catville. Next to the wheat farm is a giant statue of 16.png DogPool_ similar to the Deadpool statue, albeit without an interior, while down the bridge and just before the entrance to Catville is MobFarm (see #MobFarm section for details).

Additionally, on the opposite side of Central DogTown are DogTown Circuit, a racetrack built by 16.png WildWilson2003, and 16.png tronitas46's TreeFarm, an extremely large public farm for obtaining all three tree types. The latter can be accessed via /warp treefarm.

Catville

Catville was founded by 16.png domin0semployee (now inactive) on the 17th of October, 2024. It is similar in building style to Central DogTown, but is built primarily on solid land and has a much higher number of houses. It is also connected to and partially overlaps with the North Loop.

As the majority of Catville is private housing, few of the buildings here are notable; there does, however, exist a community blacksmith built by 16.png DogPool_. It contains ten furnaces for public use as well as a "community chest" where players can take and leave free resources, and a pool for obtaining infinite water is situated outside. There is also a "Guest House" built by 16.png zFroq_ next to the shore, but no sign exists that it has ever been occupied.

At the east end of Catville lies the Golden Hour Bridge, which was built by 16.png Mobweb and leads to East DogTown. It spans 353 blocks or just over 22 chunks, just barely beating TreeFarm (which spans 348 blocks or a little under 22 chunks) for the title of DogTown's longest build, although the latter is still larger in terms of overall area.

The Docks

Initially constructed through the combined efforts of 16.png DogPool_ and 16.png Matiok_, the Docks are now home to DogTown's largest fleet of boats as well as several other watercraft, many of which were built during the 2024-2025 Watercraft Building Event (see relevant section for details). Additionally, on the hill and further around the shore are some of DogTown's tallest skyscrapers. 16.png MorningSteph's Mezzanine Tower, constructed during the second half of 2025's February, is the tallest and widest of them all; however, 16.png Tesla_Ru's waterfall skyscraper is also notable for the fact that it entirely lacks an interior.

Not to be confused with the "DogTown Docks" listed on the StarGate network, which are located in Central DogTown and aren't actually docks.

South Loop

The South Loop is the southern section of DogTown Road. It is currently significantly more populated than the North Loop and serves as an unofficial hub for embassies, with four being built directly next to each other; the Bistar embassy, the NorthernEmpires embassy, the CatTown embassy, and the PumpkinWood embassy (see #Foreign relations section for details). There is no consistent theme between builds, but they are often large and serve primarily or solely as decoration, such as with DogTown Stadium or the snow-globe. Cobblestone is also utilised more often than bricks, vice versa to Central DogTown.

North Loop

The North Loop is the northern section of DogTown Road, partially overlapping with Catville. Excluding buildings from the overlapping area, it is relatively empty in comparison to the South Loop, consisting only of two houses, an unfinished building and 16.png bky88's toasters. It does, however, connect to a road leading out of DogTown and towards their neighbour, NorthernEmpires (see #NorthernEmpires section for details).

Economy

DogTown's most major contribution to the server economy is DogShop, a popular albeit smaller alternative to the UIP's Warehouse, but other stores exist in the area as well. There are currently three existing shops, all of which are owned and operated by the Town Council in some form.

DogShop

Interior of DogShop

DogShop is a shop owned by 16.png DogPool_, primarily offering both natural & crafted blocks, ores and iron tools. It can be both bought from and sold to, and the shop relies mainly on outside sellers to maintain stock. A StarGate leading to the Warehouse is located within as part of an official partnership. Additionally, it is accessible via /warp dogshop.

MobFarm

Interior of MobFarm

MobFarm is a small buying-only florist shop owned by 16.png Mobweb, doubling as his house. It is unclear whether it is part of Central DogTown or Catville, being built within an artificial grotto located just before the latter's official entrance, but after the bridge exiting the former. The counter is attended at all times by a dog named Sog.

Governance

DogTown is governed by the resident Town Council, consisting of owner 16.png DogPool_ and assistants 16.png Mobweb, 16.png tronitas46, 16.png Vyrvin and 16.png HanSolo20 ( 16.png JekyllorHyde is assistant in title alone due to his inactivity). Council duties primarily revolve around claim expansions, community management (such as the hosting of contests), and the planning of future districts and public works projects. Though the Town Hall exists as a meeting place for the Council, it is largely symbolic and the majority of planning is conducted through either in-game chat or the DogTown Discord.

DogTown does not have particularly strict building rules, with only three being written on the warp building's rule board:

  1. "We reserve the right to demolish or finish any builds left untouched for over a month. Don't worry, we'll try to contact you first before we do anything! =D"
  2. "Please keep terraforming & tree-cutting to a minimum! Only clear as much land as you *need* and if your project needs a lot of cleared land, consult the Council first!"
  3. "If you need to cut down trees for wood, use the public TreeFarm! You can access it via /warp treefarm! (It's more efficient than deforestation anyway)"

Exceptions to rule #1, the inactivity rule, are permitted provided a good reason. In the town's first few months, there was also a rule asking that town members please stick to the general block palette, but it has since been abolished in favour of allowing more player creativity.

When it comes to joining the town in the first place, there are no particular criteria; you only need to ask a Council member for an invite (though they may accept or deny you at their individual discretion).

Infrastructure

Roads

DogTown's primary road network is DogTown Road, a simple cobblestone & gravel path which spans the entire length of the town's primary landmass. It was laid down by 16.png NotcX and is separated into two sections: the larger South Loop and the smaller North Loop. Players are encouraged to build freely along the road.

In between the two loops are the wooden roads used for Central DogTown and Catville. These are more decorated than DogTown Road, having cobblestone slab borders and glowstone lamps. In the section of Catville that overlaps with the North Loop, the path designs are hybridised into a cobble & gravel path with wooden slab borders and lamps.

Railways

DogTown does not have a comprehensive railway network, with only one line existing as of the 24th of June, 2024. Said line leads to NorthernEmpires as part of the two towns' alliance, but has remained unfinished for months.

Events

Watercraft Building Event

On the 4th of December, 2024, 16.png DogPool_ announced the Boat Building Event on the RetroMC Discord, beginning the same day and initially having a deadline of 1st January, 2025. Members of DogTown were invited to build boats & ships of any size in the water next to the Docks; upon the event's conclusion, players would vote for their favourite boats, with the top three receiving cash prices. As the Docks themselves were built concurrently with the event, the three berths were given on a "first come, first serve" basis to the contest participants.

Just under two weeks after the event began, the deadline would be extended for the first time to the 1st of February. By the 12th of January, however, only one boat had been built: a single wooden plank with a sign saying "raft" on it, made as a joke entry. Participation had been otherwise non-existent on account of town members being preoccupied with holiday celebrations and other personal matters. Therefore, the decision was made to extend the deadline a second time to the 14th of February, and the rules were relaxed to allow for all types of watercraft to be entered; the event was accordingly renamed as the Watercraft Building Event.

After the aforementioned changes, several watercraft were finally built, totaling 5 entries at the building period's conclusion. Voting took place in the DogTown Discord and ran for three days between the 14th and 17th of February. Screenshots of each entry were posted in a forum thread where players would use Discord's reaction system to submit their votes. A list of entries, their builders and their final rankings can be found below.

Foreign relations

DogTown is currently one of RetroMC's most active towns, with 16.png DogPool_ himself being known for assisting other players and welcoming new alliances; as a result, the town has formed lasting relationships with several other groups & settlements.

CatTown

CatTown was founded by 16.png ArbiterGaming, and not long after its creation he would immediately declare a one-sided imaginary war against DogTown, involving at least one DogTown slander video, accusations of criminal activity, the creation of tanks (without engines or ammunition) supposedly for use against DogTown, claims of planting CatTown spies in the Town Council, and threats to destroy all of DogTown. Despite this, 16.png DogPool_ and 16.png ArbiterGaming are both members of each other's towns and have built each other thematic animal-shaped embassies. Additionally, 16.png ArbiterGaming has provided DogTown with mushroom removal services, and CatTown occupies a slot in the StarGate Center.

NorthernEmpires

A direct neighbour to DogTown, NorthernEmpires is one of their longest-lasting alliances. A road between the two was constructed during January of 2025, starting at the end of DogTown's North Loop and concluding at the NorthernEmpires market, and a railway is currently in progress. Additionally, all members of the DogTown Council have NorthernEmpires citizenships, with 16.png HanSolo20 serving as an assistant for both towns. NorthernEmpires also occupies a slot in the StarGate Center.

Winfield Concord

DogTown joined the Winfield Concord on the 2nd of December, 2024, and currently stands as a member of the Central Committee. 16.png Vyrvin, one of the founders of the Concord, is also an assistant of DogTown. Lednice, Avalon and Cactus, three other members of the Committee, also occupy a slot in the StarGate Center under 16.png SvGaming234's network.

CannonParty

CannonParty was founded as the result of a mass TNT detonation event, in which two members of DogTown's council took part: 16.png Mobweb and 16.png DogPool_. The two towns therefore have a positive relationship by nature, despite not having an officially declared alliance. CannonParty also occupies a slot in the StarGate Center.
