Following months of activism by the #FreeSteve Movement, early in October of 2026, various machinations began to occur.

Rumors

On late October 6th, rumors of a Steve spawner being released by a mystical spirit force, personified as 16.png CruxyMC began to spread. Eventually, images of these liberated Steves began to circulate online. This occurrence inspired hope among many in the movement, believing that the tides were shifting towards Steve's freedom. This prompted an immediate and renewed interest and push by the movement.

Demand for Freedom

On Oct 7th, Stevists (a name for supporters of the movement), including 16.png Bawhoppen, 16.png everminingkid, 16.png 0pyr met at the spawner on the Capitol grounds at Steve City. They hoped to finally demand Steve's freedom, and be released into the world. They beckoned the personified spirit of 16.png CruxyMC and pled their case to him. 16.png CruxyMC now understanding the need for Steve's freedom, at the very heart of power for the United Steves, and in magnanimity, thus freed Steve.

The Stevening

Initiating the freedom ceremony by placing several temporary spawners, releasing many Steves, the people began to rejoice. This great event attracted much attention, even from those outside the movement, igniting a great jubilation. The news of this event spread, beginning to attract many people from even outside the movement. The ceremony reached its peak when, by placing a pumpkin, the Stevists, placed a pumpkin (possibly related to the October pumpkin spirits?) to ignite the original spawner, leading 16.png CruxyMC to permanently change it to a Steve spawner.

The Celebration

By now word had spread, and the list of attendees grew. This included many players, such as 16.png Pittofer, 16.png Krissofer, 16.png everminingkid, 16.png Mantyzaz, 16.png Pilzhut5, 16.png Aaron34670, 16.png Brandonpe0, 16.png The_Q_2020, 16.png lloollool2141, 16.png Dhag, 16.png Lykeno, and more with over 18 attending in total. At first, the Steves, not realizing they were free, did not spawn, perhaps in part due to the large number of people crowding the small monster room. However, after some facilitation by 16.png Bawhoppen who messed with chunk claims and village spawn flags, and personal encouragement by 16.png Pittofer, the Steves began to tread freely on open soil. They explored the grounds, and with some support, some Steves sat in some minecarts placed by attendees. During this time, zealous devotee of the movement, 16.png FreeSteve999 managed to arrive after long travels, weeping in joy at the sight of Steve. For over an hour afterwards, the party continued with various activities and interactions by the players with the Steves, including pushing them on minecarts, digging them holes to jump around in, playing games of chase, and more. During this time, not one, but two Joshes graced the party with their presence, further blessing the momentous day.

Aftermath

While the celebrations continued for awhile, as the crowd gradually dispersed, other visitors came to see the Steve spawner. These included 16.png Skull6, 16.png MelodyTheCreator, 16.png lyrum, 16.png Spencer199, 16.png SFRNOBODYREMEMBERSHOWITSPELT, and others. The former two of which, tried to create a more pleasant and calming environment for the Steves. Although the #FreeSteve hashtag began as a claim to 'Free' (imperative verb) Steve, its meaning would thereby evolve to mean 'Free' (adjective) Steve.
