BetaEvolutions/MultiMC-LWJGL3-Patch

ℹ️ Notice: These instructions only apply to Beta Evolutions 2.0.7 and later; earlier versions of Beta Evolutions use LWJGL 2 and do not require this override.

Starting with 2.0.7, BetaEvolutions migrated from LWJGL 2 to LWJGL 3, providing performance improvements, bug fixes, improved compatibility with modern systems, and enables new features such as controller input. By default, most launchers (including MultiMC, Prism Launcher & forks) configure Minecraft Beta 1.7.3 to use LWJGL 2 as that was the version of LWJGL originally used by Minecraft in 2011.
Beta Evolutions 2.0.7 and later require LWJGL 3 and therefore require an additional configuration change; this guide will cover how to do so on MultiMC, Prism Launcher and forks.

Instructions

⚠️ Warning: You must replace the entire contents of the existing LWJGL JSON file. Leaving portions of the old configuration in the file, or failing to copy the complete replacement configuration, may prevent the instance from launching correctly.

  1. If you haven't done so yet, create a Minecraft Beta 1.7.3 instance in MultiMC, Prism Launcher or fork and install the Beta Evolutions JAR mod as normal.
  2. Right-click the instance and select Edit Instance.
  3. Select Version from the left-hand menu.
  4. Select the LWJGL component from the version list.
  5. Select Customize from the menu on the right, then select Edit; the LWJGL configuration JSON should open in your default text editor.
  6. Open the Beta Evolutions LWJGL 3 Override JSON.
  7. Replace the entire contents of the existing LWJGL configuration file with that of the override JSON.
  8. Save the file and close your text editor.
  9. Return to the Version menu in the launcher; the LWJGL component should now be displayed as LWJGL 3 instead of LWJGL. You may need to close and reopen the instance settings before the updated name appears.
  10. Close the instance settings and launch the game.

Troubleshooting

If the game fails to launch after making the change:

  • Confirm that the LWJGL component is displayed as LWJGL 3.
  • Reopen the LWJGL configuration and ensure that the entire override JSON was copied correctly.
  • Ensure that no sections of the original LWJGL 2 configuration remain in the file.
  • Check the launcher's log for errors relating to LWJGL libraries or native libraries.
  • If necessary, remove the customized LWJGL component and repeat the instructions above using a fresh copy of the override JSON.
