Shortly after becoming a member of the server, I discovered how self-sufficient we were. The server uses a modified CB1060 fork called Project Poseidon and contains expansions, replacements, and backports on various plugins seen in modern Minecraft. I wanted to get involved and contribute to the server while keeping my own skills sharp. I've also had quite a bit of experience in Java through university coursework and previous work. In late 2024, I requested work / ways to contribute, and I was given the External Developer role, which patched me into some of the GitHub repositories that RetroMC uses and chats with the technical operators.
My first project was revamping the weather voting system. The old plugin was somewhat unreliable and had strange quirks with "no" voting. Sometimes the weather would not change outright. This got my feet wet doing plugin development, and it was subsequently incorporated and currently exists on the server as JVote!
There was a bit of a down period afterwards with development due to work, travels, and lack of motivation/understanding of what was currently needed. I was able to find a new project with an improvement on JVillage--adding the ability to auto-unclaim.
With a few things under my belt, I was awarded the Developer role, which boosted my morale and desire to contribute. As of March 2025, I am working on implementing Chest Minecart LWC protections. Once finished, I plan to rework teleport into Fundamentals (an Essentials replacement) and implement the /back command such that it actually works.
