The warp near the arena.
Aerial view of the arena.
The lobby.
The arena.

The MobArena minigame, available on RetroMC, involves players killing waves of hostile mobs using items from classes the players choose, and it gets more difficult with each successive wave.
Rewards are greater the longer players survive.
/warp mobarena can be used to teleport to the exterior of the arena.
The MobArena configuration (currently 1.17d) has been updated several times – see MobArena/Changelog.

Commands

/mobarena is the base command.

  • join - Enter the lobby, where a class can be chosen.
  • leave - Leave the arena/lobby.
  • spectate - Enter a safe area in the arena to spectate; can't be used mid-game.
  • notready - Lists players who aren't marked as ready.

Shortened commands

  • /ma = /mobarena
  • j = join
  • l = leave
  • spec = spectate

Gameplay

Lobby

Upon entering the lobby, inventories of players are taken and would be restored upon conclusion of the game.
There are a bunch of wall signs that can be punched to select a class.
Each class has its own perks and downfalls; see #Classes.
Players are marked as ready when they punch any iron block in the lobby.

In the arena

Due to exploits, dropping items is disabled.
There's a few seconds of rest before each wave starts.
After each successive wave, additional enemies appear when the next wave starts and every so often, a reward is added when that happens.
There's a timer that resets when you defeat a foe; should the timer expire, players would be kicked from the current game in-progress.

Wave-specific info

Wave 8

The only foes here are groups of Monsters/humans.

Wave 10

This wave consists entirely of a swarm of zombies with just 1 HP.

Wave 15

Zombie pigmen are summmoned from lighting strikes at the corners of the arena, which makes this wave a chance to get cooked pork.

Wave 20

The only foe in this wave is a boss, a spider with a lot of HP. Its attacks are:

  • Warp: It teleports somewhere else in the arena to evade attacks.
  • Arrow: One arrow is shot at a random player.
  • Fetch Target: Teleports a random player to itself.
  • Root Target: Traps a random player, locking their camera and position.

The boss, when defeated, disappars alongside a sound of an explosion.

Wave 39

This wave and the next one are the showcases of the embodiment of PETA's fury. How?

A swarm of wolves!

Not many players have gotten to this wave before.

Wave 40

You'll encounter a wolf with a ton of HP, and it has different attacks compared to the one in wave 20:

  • Warp: It teleports somewhere else in the arena to evade attacks.
  • Lightning Aura: Summmons one bolt of lightning straight from the sky at the wolf's location. Spectators can also be attacked.
  • Throw Nearby Players and Throw Distant Players: Title says it all.
  • Shuffle Positions: Swaps positions of itself and another player(?)

The boss disappears when defeated and a sound of an explosion plays.

Rewards

Wave 1-10

  • Gunpowder
  • Bones
  • Cookies
  • Iron Ingots
  • Apples

An old arena

The old arena lobby is nearby the current arena.

However, the old lobby's actual location and the arena itself are in an area nearby other minigames.

An even older arena

This dates back to 2019.
