BetaLands was a server founded in 2015, formerly owned by Swetz, and owned by 16.png JohnyMuffin.
Initially, RetroMC and BetaLands were seperate servers, but they merged in April 2018, and then split again in June due to differing opinions of Johny and Swetz.
It was shut down from the public on September 2nd of 2023.
Only staff were able to join for transfer requests to RetroMC, till 2nd March 2024, when the server was fully shut down.
This page references the server after it was accquired by RetroMC in December 2019 unless specifically mentioned.

Shutdown

On July 7th of 2023, Johny made an announcement in the RetroMC Discord server about the decision to shut down Betalands on September 1st and town/base transfers will be accepted for an additional 12 (now 6) months following the shutdown date.
The server shop was closed, and a noticeboard was placed in the intro warp.

BetaLands Sendoff event

Betalands Sendoff was an event announced by 16.png EternalllZM on August 27, 2023.
General anarchy (This didn't apply to chat.), TNT, griefing, and /give were enabled during the event.
The event started on September 1, 10:00 PM, UTC and the voice channel used in the Discord server was betalands-event-sept1.
The cutoff date for transfers was changed to March 2, 2024.

Note that the anarchy and such BEGINS WHEN THE EVENT STARTS. IF YOU GRIEF OR FOOL AROUND NOW YOU ARE STILL VIOLATING RULES.

Note from 16.png Noggisoggi: I joined the event near the event's end time, so I couldn't gather a lot of screenshots.

Differences from RetroMC

Some features available in RetroMC, such as container locks via LWC, Essentials/Fundamentals homes, and overviewer were also available in BetaLands.
And this is where the differences begin:

  • Server-based economy, sugarcane and catus farms were the best items to sell to the shop
  • Lockette was still enabled for locked containers created before the implementation of LWC
  • StarGates & MobArena didn't exist
  • Towny was still used instead of JVillage, and players regenerated health in towns
  • No automated UUID-based account transfer
  • Less updated stuff
