VillageTown is a village on RetroMC owned by 16.png Tistan01. It was originally founded on BetaLands in late 2018 before being transferred to RetroMC and refounded within JVillage on September 2nd, 2023. It contains a mix of historical buildings and landmarks from BetaLands, as well as new constructions.

VillageTown consists of three distinct areas: Downtown, which consists of the oldest buildings in the town; the New Development Area, built on old BetaLands chunks with a community centre; and New VillageTown Area, which is on new chunks from RetroMC. Each area has distinct landmarks, and all are accessible by transit.

History

BetaLands

VillageTown was founded sometime in 2018 after 16.png Tistan01 left a different town, Mountville, after a world reset. The first building constructed in VillageTown is the fountain beside the old community and news boards. 16.png Tistan01’s house and the former VT General Store were then built. Over time, new citizens joined, and the town was expanded further East. The community board, news board, and blacklist board were then constructed.

The first major project in VillageTown was MineMall, home of the monorail system connecting most areas of the town. It took approximately 2 months to finish the build, and years to have the first functional monorail. Not long after, 16.png MrBacon2 finished construction on VillageTown apartments, becoming the second major project for the town.

Weeks after, 16.png Pilot_Doggo joined the town and began building a house, tree farm and sugarcane farm. The tree farm was finished first, as well as paths, a bridge, the sugarcane farm, and a waterfall before the house began construction. 16.png Pilot_Doggo eventually abandoned it, leaving only a skeleton outline, and deciding to quit the BetaLands server. With no direct contact to him, 16.png Tistan01 began building on the skeleton of the house, eventually finishing it and turning it into the current VillageTown Government (VTG) office. In 2019, several BetaLands moderators would visit VillageTown, most notably 16.png BeezleYT. This, somehow, resulted in two bedrock blocks being placed in the ocean. Neither 16.png Tistan01, nor any former BetaLands players know when or why this happened. Because of this, and the moderators’ seeming friendliness when visiting the town, 16.png Tistan01 built a moderator/admin lounge underneath a small hill in the trading post. When former owner 16.png Sweetz was online on June 16th of the same year, 16.png Tistan01 asked if he could look at it. Out of mild amusement, and most likely pity, 16.png Sweetz approved the lounge with a colourful sign. This still remains in the Downtown area. 16.png BeezleYT was quoted as saying: “this is a lounge for peasants” during the visit, which 16.png Tistan01 notes as being the funniest thing he had ever heard from him. When new citizens began joining fast, VTG were faced with a conundrum: there was no more room in the main chunks for new members to build. 16.png Tistan01 mentioned this to 16.png MrBacon2, who then declared the chunks that 16.png Pilot_Doggo had bridged to as the Extended Housing area. Months later, 16.png Pilot_Doggo visited VillageTown and approved of what had become of his home, apologizing that he couldn’t finish it, but happy that it went to good use. Around the same time, the 10,000 X block milestone was put next to Tally Hill in the Extended Housing area; as well as the connection of the BetaLands server railway, going directly to spawn.

Many other projects began in the years following 2019, including the VillageTown Bar & Grill, the lighthouse, VillageTown border checkpoint and the VillageTown Inn. This coincided with the slow downfall of BetaLands until 2023 when the server was fully shut down. 16.png Tistan01 applied to have VillageTown moved to RetroMC, and by September of the same year, VillageTown was refounded.

RetroMC

According to 16.png Tistan01, it took months of work to be able to reclaim most of the town, and the surrounding chunks that were moved. The beginning weeks of VillageTown marked a giant shift in the town’s priorities, from growth to preservation. A pathway was built to the border of town, from RetroMC chunks to the old BetaLands chunks. 16.png Tistan01 was the only member of the town for months, before finally starting to finish old projects. The first of which was the monorail system, finally connecting the first terminal to Extended Housing. The second terminal was then connected to other chunks moved from BetaLands.

While mining, 16.png Tistan01 came across an old mining base. Confused, he called 16.png DogPool_, who identified the mining base as 16.png Grassboii’s. Through an error in moving the chunks, VillageTown was moved over the base at Y=12, and claimed by VillageTown unknowingly during its first few weeks. 16.png Tistan01 asked 16.png Grassboii about modifying the base and expanding it, to which 16.png Grassboii gave permission. After a week of mining out tunnels for the base, 16.png Tistan01 had the idea of turning it into an underground mall, inspired by the Toronto PATH. The base was then turned into VT Village Square, consisting of just over three kilometres of walkable space.

During the construction of Village Square, 16.png Tistan01 connected the other side of Neighborhood A in the mall to the uninhabited BetaLands chunks. He then dubbed the area the “New Development Area”.

The New Development Area remained barren until 16.png Tistan01 began flattening land and constructing what was originally supposed to be an apartment building. As it was built, it turned into the VillageTown Community Centre. A connecting library and basement were constructed, housing new community and suggestion boards.

While working on the VillageTown Inn, 16.png Tistan01 expanded the pathway of the Extended Housing area to the chunk border of the town. He then dug a small tunnel into the new chunks, dubbing the area the “New VillageTown” area, or just “New VT”. When more citizens began joining VillageTown, they were directed to New VT or the New Development Area.

After the establishment of New VT, 16.png Tistan01 dug out a portion of Village Square to use as a subway platform. Construction then began on the GO terminal, heavily inspired by the real GO Transit system in Ontario, Canada. The project took months of progress before becoming operational during August of 2026.

VillageTown got its official StarGate network in August of 2026, connected to Village Square, DogTown, and Downtown.
