Tunnels of Madness

The Tunnels of Madness are a series of tunnels, mines, caves, and rail lines located under the spawn of the overworld. These tunnels date as early as >6/28/2018 (estimated date of logblock being added), to as late as 2022.

One of many such tunnels.

These tunnels exist as a sort of backrooms, with confusing turns, twists and turnarounds. Tunnels also tend to intersect, making the already hectic system more confusing. These tunnels exist at Y=5-12, and can vary from 2x2 to 2x1 shafts, the length, the amount, and area these tunnels cover is currently unknown, but its theorized that the tunnel system is tens thousands of blocks in length. More information must and will be gathered.

Exploration

What is exploration like?

Exploration can be boring, due to just seeing stone, sometimes for hundreds of blocks. However, you can come across interesting finds that break up the monotony, and if you have access to lb tool, it can be fun to date tunnels and blocks. You can expect to find abandoned rooms, crafting tables, furnaces, nether portals, huge cave systems, an occasional exit, and ores.

What should I do while exploring?

No matter how you enter the catacombs, there are three rules to follow:

1. Don't break shit, Biggest rule, do not destroy tunnels, do not break ores, don't steal blocks, its greifing

2. Don't place shit, Don't place blocks, or at least don't block off tunnels

3. If you do any of the following, try to reverse it, so if you place a block, break it, if you mine stone, place it back, the tunnels are historical

There are things I recommend you do while exploring. Refrain from exploring caves, they have gotten me lost many times, and will get you lost. Caves can also house mobs, if unlight, so beware you could die to them, if there are enough. Lava is a general threat, if you see any, be careful around, especially if there are mobs nearby. Be aware in the tunnels, getting lost means you may never be able to get back to your desired entrance or exit again.

That is all I offer, have fun exploring! (map could come soon)

Life Forms

The Entity

There has been a sighting of some sort of creature in the tunnels under docklands. It was spotted on the 4th of September 2025.It was first (and only) seen by Overallsteak748 ( me), and appeared to be a brown two block tall creature, and disappeared into a 2 x 1 shaft, which Overallsteak748 followed, and saw it go into another tunnel. This tunnel led to a hole which entraps players in a disorienting series of corridors. Though some may believe it to be a mob, I assure you it couldn't (or shouldn't) of been a mob. All the spawn tunnels are lit up, due to them being mines, and this particular section under docklands was light up exceptionally well. Mobs are also rare on the server in general, so one couldn't of spawned down there. There is more proof it wasn't a mob, first of all being it should have despawned because I first saw the entity about 20-30 blocks away, and when I saw it go into another tunnel, it was about another 30-40 blocks away, which shouldn't if been possible, mobs don't move that fast, and it should have despawned. Monsters

In the unlight caves, and rare unlight passage, zombies, spiders, creepers, and skeletons can spawn in large numbers. They can knock you into lava, so be incredibly careful while near lava pools in caves.

Mushrooms

Mushrooms can exist as massive colonies in the spawn tunnels, especially in poorly lit caves directly under spawn, where chunks are always loaded, so they can grow to cover massive cave systems, which will be dealt with accordingly by A.M.B.E.R. Mushrooms usually however, simply exist in small colonies, offering a breakup in the monotony of stone, or could serve as food.

Exits and Entrances

Docklands

The "main" exit and entrance seems to be the mine-shaft entrance in Docklands. it is unknown if this was the start of the tunnels, or if it just was integrated into them over the years

+Z Highway

The +Z Highway exit was found when exploring in one of the tunnels. It is a ladder that goes up to the very start of the +Z Highway. It is unknown who build this exit as it has no logblock logs.

Samboo's Mine

16.png samboo built a mine around 2019 that happened to connect to one of the main tunnels. Samboo's mine is one of the only tunnels that have any logs under logblock. The mine exits outside of spawn town into a small village with activity dating back to 2024.

Wendover-Vernacian passageways

A tunnel that for some unknown reason branched off from Wendover's mines and then stopped after it connected to Vernacian's mines via a cave. This tunnel is over 6k blocks long and should not be used as there are many subtunnels that extend from it so there is a high chance of getting lost in unexplored tunnels.

Notable Places

THE WENDOVER TUNNEL

In a cave connected to the Vernacian mines, a tunnel exists that extends for thousands of blocks underground, many other tunnels split off from it, where they lead and why is unknown, the purpose of this tunnel is still unknown, but it was built by town assistant Johan. One of the tunnels splits off at an exit at downtown Wendover.

1x1 DIAGONAL TUNNEL

There exists a 1x1 diagonal shaft, which seemingly leads to nowhere except a small lava pool. Why and who built it in such a difficult way is still unknown.
