These are tips for new players of RetroMC and Beta 1.7.3 in general. Note: The default keybinds are shown here.

General tips

Boat acceleration indicator

Water particles will appear from the back of boats when travelling at full speed, and thus, will break when it collides with land.
If you slow down by holding the key to go back (S, the water particles will stop and it won't break when touching land.

Dismount minecarts and boats

Interact (right-click) with the minecart/boat you're mounted on and you'll dismount it.

Wheat crop trampling prevention

Sneak (Shift) on farmland with wheat crops and they won't be trampled.
If you have permission to modify the wheat farm(s), you can add fences under the farmland to stop the crops from being trampled.

An additional use for swords

For some reason, blocks break faster with swords; for example: fences and stairs.

Difference in crafting recipes

  • Fences are crafted with 6 sticks, horizontally.
  • Books are crafted with 3 paper, vertically.

Entity radar via the debug menu

Open the debug menu (F3) and you can see the IDs of entities, represented as a nametag above their heads. Handy for finding spawners.

RetroMC tips

Item information command

/iteminfo shows info about an item that's currently held.
Useful for when you want to create your own shop.

Stacking the unstackable items

This tip uses the ChestShop plugin to stack items.
Place a sign above a chest you own and change the contents below according to your needs:

 Noggisoggi
    10
  B 1:1 S
STONE_PICKAXE
  • 1st line: username; you can leave it blank.
  • 2nd line: quantity
  • 3rd line: price
  • 4th line: item name

Stacked items are a bit fragile when moving them in inventories, so remember to quick-move (Shift + Left click) them.
Tools effectively get "unbreaking" when you stack them (The stack number of a tool goes down when one of them fully breaks).
Eating stacked mushroom soup will give you only one bowl, so unstack the soup before eating.

LWC stuff (sharing containers)

Furnaces, chests and doors automatically lock upon placement.

  • /lwc - Main command - shows usage commands.
  • /cprivate - Lock a container for purely personal.
  • /cpublic - Lock a container, but keep it open for public use.
  • /cprivate - Unlock a container. Only the owner of a specified lock or staff can do this.
  • /cmodify <username> - Permit a specified username to access a specified container.

You can use LWC to protect a build by encasing it in locked containers.

Actually useful sponges

Thanks to a plugin, sponges can be used to drain water.
As a bonus, you don't need to dry the sponge after use.

Extra money from killing Creepers

If you kill a creeper using a wooden sword, you obtain ~$5 instead of ~$1.

Holiday shops

On holidays like Christmas and Halloween, a special shop opens on the spawn island.
Rare items can be found there.
