The United Steves of America (U.S.A.) is a nation on RetroMC. It was the third nation to be founded, on August 7th 2026.

History

The United Steves of America (or U.S.A.) began its history as a union of independent towns on Aug 7th 2026. Founding members included Mineville, Cradle, WoolStreet, Miriftland, among others. Early in its history, President Bawhoppen embarked on a campaign of diplomatic expansion. Application of this diplomatic policy by the U.S.A. government led to the FishTown Incident on Aug 8th. On August 10th, President Bawhoppen formally convened a council with representatives from founding member towns who met to sign the U.S.A. constitution, formally ratifying it.

On August 11th, the U.S.A.'s involvement in FishTown escalated into a large-scale conflict with a sister nation The NorthernEmpires, later becoming known as the Fishtown War. On this same day, the U.S.A.'s Constitution was amended to allow for direct popular elections for President, subsuming the duties of the Speakership, and replacing the existing President with Commander-in-Chief. Elections for the first presidency began with two candidates declaring themselves, everminingkid and Migfiney. The following day, Bawhoppen attended a peace meeting hosted by Avalon, but was ambushed and captured by the NorthernEmpires afterwards.

On August 12th, everminingkid was elected President of the United Steves of America, winning 63% of the vote. He pledged a diplomatic mission to secure Bawhoppen's release, and pursued diplomacy during the war. On Aug 28th, everminingkid was re-elected for a 2nd term unanimously. Following weeks of intense hidden negotiations, it was announced that a public meeting would be held discussing the fate of the conflict to be hosted at VillageTown. The summit was held on Sept 5, where the Treaty of VillageTown was signed, with the United Steves apologizing for the war, releasing Bawhoppen on the condition he not hold office again, and recognizing FishTown's status and ending hostilities. This also created a treaty-bound alliance with NorthernEmpires.

Constitution

The United Steves of America is governed by the United Steves of America's Constitution, which is as follows:

United Steves Constitution

We the Steves, in order to form a more perfect union, do hereby establish this constitution:

Article 1: The Nation shall be composed of a Federal Union of member towns and territories.

Article 2: The United Steves government shall be composed of a Federal Council. The execution of the powers of the Federal Council shall be vested in a President.

Article 3: The Federal Council shall be composed of Senators chosen by Member Towns through acclamation.

Article 4: The President shall have the power to make appointments, invitations, programs, declarations, and manage the affairs of the Nation.

Article 5: The President shall serve a 2-week term, and be eligible for re-election at the end of that term.

Article 6: Membership in the Union shall be divided between Member towns and territories. Member Towns shall have the right to allocate senators to the Council, while territories shall receive no such representation.

Article 8: There shall exist a Commander-in-Chief, with veto power over decisions of the President and Council, and may take the necessary means to preserve and maintain the Nation.

Article 9: The President and Commander-in-Chief shall have the right to invite new Member Towns under equal terms as the existing Members.

Article 10: Senators shall have a right to commence new votes in the Council, including the right to remove the current President.

Article 11: Appointments to positions shall be conducted by the President, or Commander-in-Chief if the President is unable.

Article 12: The United Steves government shall have the power to raise voluntary funds to the national budget.

Article 13: Votes of the Council on legislation, appointments, and other routine matters shall pass by simple majority of those present in the voting with a minimum discussion period of 12 hours before the ratification of a decision. Should a super-majority of all Senators be reached, the voting may conclude prior to the minimum time.

Article 14: Amendments to the Constitution shall require a 2/3rds supermajority of voting Senators. The proposal shall require a minimum 7-day waiting period.

Article 15: The President shall be elected by popular vote of all legal citizens of The United Steves of America. Any such citizen is eligible to run for this office, and a vote shall commence by nomination of a sitting Senator.

United Steves Bill of Rights

Amendment 1: The Council shall make no law abridging the freedom to build or design.

Amendment 2: The right to bear TNT shall not be infringed.

Amendment 3: All Member towns shall enjoy the right to conduct their government in a manner of their choosing.

Amendment 4: Those accused of grief shall have a right to be judged by a jury of admins.

Amendment 5: This Bill of Rights shall not be construed as to limit other rights.
